We've been working hard behind the scenes to develop the only dog Youth Club around.
The most delicate age bracket (the messy middle) for tricky behaviours now has a Members Club - and we welcome the silliest, naughtiest, and bouncy-est! Oh - and their dogs too...
Who's it for?
If your dog can tick any 3 of these - you're in!
-
6-24 months old
-
Selective hearing
-
Suddenly pulling on walks
-
Overzealous greetings
-
Recall vanished
-
Has opinions
-
Makes questionable life choices
What's the structure?
-
Kicking off with the FOUNDERS course - our first OG 12 dogs will be founders for life and have very special attention - then FRESHERS will become the initial stage of Youth Club for new cohorts
-
All members will receive a Membership number and card - Founders will gain a space on the Wall of Fame on this page!
-
Our cohort will undergo an MOT which will give an overview of how much of a Narna their dog is at the start of Youth Club
-
WhatsApp group is formed for community space
-
Groups will have an initial Google Meets chat together to get familiar with me, their new peers, and learn their first Pattern Game
-
We have 6 awesome face-to-face sessions at various locations to work on a great variety of skills, and have a lotta fun :D
-
Our dogs graduate together and we reflect on all the joy we've had. They pick up their Certificate and Rosette!
-
Families get to jump onto our Youth Club Monthly Membership, which gives access to Training Classes, Socials, and discounts on in-house classes, courses and events!
-
When dogs hit 2, the fun doesn't stop! We move dogs over to the adult dog Sophomores Club!
Where are the venues?
We will be training in public spaces that vary throughout each course and month, depending on weather, cohorts, behaviours and daylight hours.
The goal is to make it all real-life and to create strong proofing so that dogs are able to translate their skills into your everyday life.
The venues will all sit within Leicestershire, and on the Warwickshire border.
Be willing to travel up to 30 minutes for your course.
When do these sessions happen?
Our FOUNDERS courses will be taking place on Tuesdays at 6.30pm and Saturdays at 2pm. The dates for intake are:
- Saturday 24th October at 2.00pm
- Tuesday 27th October at 6.30pm
Monthly Members training sessions and socials will vary throughout the year.
What is the content?
Honestly - we're sick of seeing Adolescent dogs being dragged through boring courses and regimental pack walks. Imagine asking your teenage son to be still and silent for an hour...
We'll cover your Loose Lead walking and your Settling. That's a given.
BUT we want this to be fun, interactive, social and interesting - for everyone.
SO we're incorporating group walks, cafes, play, pattern games, freework, nosework, and more...
You'll also learn what makes your own dog motivated and fulfilled through breed-tailored learning!
I need you to walk in with an open mind and an open heart for your teen dog, and be willing to be a bit silly. If you can do that - you'll have an absolute blast!
THIS SOUNDS AMAZING! HOW DO I GET IN THE DOOR?
Step 1: Select your date below (if spaces are available)
Step 2: Book your place
Step 3: Await contact from Aunty Carla over the coming week
Step 4: Get very excited to start your journey!
Frequently Asked Questions
My dog is just on the cusp of the age bracket. Can I still book?
If your dog's age is just outside of 6-24 months old and you're interested in joining, please drop Carla an email to info@auntycarlasdogtraining.co.uk and she'll have a chat with you.
My dog can be quite loud and reactive to other dogs in his/her environment. Can I still book?
If your dog is a noisy and overzealous greeter, or just goes in a bit bouncy, that's okay. We can work on that in the programme. If your dog can't cope with the sight of dogs or people at any distance, you may want to book in for the 1-1 Behaviour Support Programme.
I can't make one of the sessions. Is it worth me booking?
Yes. We can either try to accommodate you for that session on a different day (not guaranteed) or send you videos and homework.
Do you accept dogs in head collars?
Our preference will always be a harness and clip lead, but if you physically are not strong enough to hold your own dog and are concerned about this as a safety issue in public/near roads, we accept head collars as a temporary option to allow you to access the programme.
How many dogs are there in each cohort?
We currently recruit 12 dogs per cohort (2 separate groups). The Youth Club meets and training sessions may sit between 4-15 dogs at any event.
How long are the sessions?
Programme sessions are between 50-60 minutes. Events and member training sessions will vary depending on location and activity.
Can I bring my kids?
Calm and sensible children are welcomed. They will only be able to greet other dogs in the programme if okay-ed to by myself. If you're trying to work on calm and confidence with your dog, I would recommend that you come to the sessions without kids.
What should I bring?
You will be briefed as a group beforehand with equipment, expectations and what to do on arrival.
The standard items that we like to recommend are a treat bag, 5 meter lead, harness, treats, and grippy shoes if you have a puller! Any of our recommend items can be found on our Product Recommendations page.
